What to State in the Purchase Order
Galvanized welded mesh should be purchased against a written coating route and acceptance plan. State whether the finished mesh must be galvanized after welding (GAW) or whether galvanized wire before welding (GBW) is acceptable, then identify the applicable wire, coating and test standards in the order.
Base-wire grade, finished wire diameter and the requested zinc-coating class must be confirmed against the purchase order and mill or inspection records.
Purchasing and Handling Notes
- GAW versus GBW：GAW describes mesh galvanized after welding; GBW describes mesh welded from already-galvanized wire. Specify the route because weld-area coverage and acceptance evidence differ.
- Coating verification：When coating mass is contractual, name the required coating class, sampling plan and report format. ASTM A90/A90M describes a method for determining coating mass on zinc-coated iron and steel articles.
- Finished dimensions：Confirm whether wire diameter is measured before or after galvanizing, and whether opening means clear opening or centre-to-centre pitch. ASTM A740 identifies finished wire sizes after galvanizing for the hardware-cloth scope it covers.
- Storage before installation：Keep rolls dry, drained and ventilated. Fresh galvanized surfaces stored wet without free-flowing air can develop wet storage stain.
