Typical Applications of 304 Plain Dutch Weave Mesh
Plain Dutch weave packs fine shute wires tightly against heavier warp wires, forming wedge-shaped pores that hold particles at the surface of the cloth. Our buyers specify this family most often for hydraulic filtration, fuel filtration and polymer filtration where micron-level retention is required.
- Hydraulic filtration
- fuel filtration
- polymer filtration
Metallurgical Composition & Alloy Ratio Analysis
304 Plain Dutch Weave Wire Purity & Heat Traceability
Every 304 wire batch for this product family is spectrometer-tested before weaving. The Cr 18-20% / Ni 8-10.5% balance below is what gives this mesh its corrosion resistance in hydraulic fluids, fuels and most process media, and each shipment includes an EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate tied to the wire heat number.
All batches are tested via handheld PM-I spectrometer before Tianjin Port export, guaranteeing material compliance.
304 Plain Dutch Weave Physical & Service Limits
- Max Oxidation Temperature:Resists scaling in continuous air service up to 870°C; intermittent service limit is 925°C.
- Sensitization Warning:Holding 304 in the 425-860°C range precipitates chromium carbides at grain boundaries. For welded filter assemblies, ask us about the low-carbon 304L version of this mesh.
- Yield Strength After Cold Drawing:205 MPa minimum in annealed condition, rising to 310 MPa after the cold-drawing used for weaving wire, which keeps the tightly packed shute wires locked in place under differential pressure.
- Pressure Service:The dense shute packing gives plain Dutch weave higher strength and aperture stability than plain weave of comparable fineness, which is why it is used in pressure-rated filter elements. Confirm your maximum differential pressure in the RFQ so we can match wire diameters.
ASTM E2016-22 Reference Tolerances for 304 Plain Dutch Weave
Dutch weave cloth is specified by warp and shute wire diameters as well as mesh count, so confirm which tolerance band in ASTM E2016-22 applies to your specification before ordering. This family's 20-325 mesh range spans the intermediate and fine bands; request actual measured values in the pre-shipment report.
| Nominal Mesh Range | Max Wire Dia. Tolerance | Max Aperture Size Tolerance | Warp Tilt Deviation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 50 Mesh | ± 0.013 mm (0.0005 inch) | ± 3% of nominal aperture | Tilt deviation ≤ 2° |
| 51 to 200 Mesh | ± 0.008 mm (0.0003 inch) | ± 5% of nominal aperture | Tilt deviation ≤ 1.5° |
| 201 to 400 Mesh | ± 0.004 mm (0.00015 inch) | ± 8% of nominal aperture | Tilt deviation ≤ 1° |
Where Do These Specifications Come From?
- “This specification covers industrial woven wire fabric, referred to as wire cloth, for general use including the separation of particles.”ASTM E2016-22, Scope 1.1ASTM International - mesh count, wire diameter and aperture tolerance basis for this product family
- “This International Standard defines terms regarding industrial woven wire cloth for screening purposes and specifies maximum permissible error, requirements, and test methods.”ISO 9044:2016, ScopeInternational Organization for Standardization - terminology, permissible deviation and test basis for woven wire cloth
- “Plain Dutch Weave - This type of weave uses a similar technique as that of plain weaves. However, the warp wires have a larger diameter than the shute wires. The lighter shute brought closer together, which forms a dense filter. This weave appears to be wedge-shaped or tapered at the opening.”Newark Wire Cloth, Guide to Different Types of Wire Mesh WeavesNewark Wire - structural definition of plain Dutch weave interlacing used in this page's weave comparison
